5:40 PM 7/9/09 · As previously mentioned, here or there, I finally caved and joined Twitter. Took me a bit to get used to it, and I'm a long way to fully getting all the little tricks yet, but I seem to be doing okay...

...hasn't been a full month yet, doesn't seem like it anyway, and I've already got 60 followers.

A litle bit back I went skimming thru the search functions and then thru the follows of my actual friends that're on there. I'm currently following about 100 people, most of which I get SMS redirects to my phone (unlimited textging is a beautiful thing). They're an even mixture of sockpuppets, fetish models, porn stars, and people I either know or are on my LJ friendslist.

It's the basic stuff I'm still struggling with. Apparently 'nudge' before a users name will send them a message to indicate you miss their tweets. If you just type 'stats' it will send you a message back telling you how many you're following and how many follow you. Generally 'b' and then a username will send a personal message but not if that person isn't following you. If you include a name in your own tweets with '@' just before it then they will know you mentioned them in one of your tweets...

...and that's about all I know so far.

If there's a directory of these little commands I haven't seen it yet. Haven't really looked but it wasn't part of my introduction package.

10:08 PM 7/6/09 · When I first came yo livejournal in 2003 I quickly stumbled into the whole sockpuppet thang. It's amazing how many communities are completely dedicated to these types of accounts. If you're not familiar with the term a sockpuppet is an RPG type journal which may be involved in an actual game or, like most of mine, loves to mingle with others in non·specific RP hangouts like the lunatic_cafe...

...which, sadly, is kinda dead these days.

Naturally, being a kind of place I enjoy I tried to get a number of my friends into it too. Various responses to that, Brand lit up on the topic like it was an affront before God that these kinds of accounts even existed. Others like Lloyd warmed to the concept and got into it...if only for a little bit. Ultimately, I only know of one he ran but I think I crossed paths with a couple others he might've done here and there as well.

I've quite a few muns, the people that run sockpuppets, on my current friendslist that I wouldn't've met any other way.

Personally I ran a lot of sockpuppets, all listed on the profile to ray_wolf, but mostly I just use their scrapbooks for image storage space of stuff I post or to host my various mood themes.

Oddly, there's one sockpuppet that doesn't technically have a mun. I didn't strictly keep the invites to just my friends so much as to people I just know. From Rocky Horror to Vampire the Masquerade to the various local conventions I attend, there's a general shifting group of people that fundamentally just know each other. At times I've though just getting along with these folks meant we were friends but recent years have told me otherwise. Anyways, the point of this is that I had a sit down with one a stretch back, Denny's is practically around the corner from an event a lot of us frequent, and he seemed more than a little intrigued...

...and thus, The·Question was born!

For the longest time I didn't know who he was. Even after I worked it out, he thanked me for the fun he's had with it, he kinda swore me to secrecy. I'm great at keeping secrets...when someone has the good sense to tell me something is supposed to be one. On a rare occasion we have lunch together when he's in my neck of the woods...which isn't that often.

No, I'm not telling you who he is. He's bigger than me...maybe.

9:13 AM 7/7/09 · Think Mom put it best, in describing how our weekends tend to go when I visit. She says "there are so many things I have to do...but I really don't want to do them".

Occasionally I wonder if she's of much the same mind when I'm not there.

Needless to say, it was a fairly busy while still relaxing weekend.

9:21 PM 7/7/09 · Even though I knew it was coming I completely forgot that Warehouse 13 started tonight, Tuesday evening from my perspective. The newest program to Scifi, which I suppose is now technically SyFy but I'm being resistant, and only about 20 minutes in now and it's pretty decent.

Haven't gotten too deep into it so I'm not sure if it's a combination of science and magik or if the more ancient stuff represents are a more ancient technology. I'll probably know for sure by the end of this 1st episode.

A likely combination of characters. A very serious career minded woman who is very grounded in reality. A goofy guy with a penchant for bedding ditzy women who occasionally feels weird vibes. Finally a grizzled old guy who is beyond mysterious and remarkably huggable. They all work for a non·specific government agency, the 1st two being new recruits, to procure and secure itens that fundamentally defy reality...when they're not warping it.

Two secret service agents find themselves abruptly transferred to a massive storage facility filled with mysterious relics.

I think I'm going to like this show!

4:07 PM 7/7/09 · On the advice of someone, when I swung by Blockbuster this week I added Bamboozled to the titles I was looking for. Regrettably, Blockbuster doesn't carry it. Not a big deal, I'll probably find it eventually if it's in the cards for me to...though I think I'm going to see if I can find it online first...

The joy of Video·Embedding is that the links post (Clicky!) has a number of sites that display full movies. Image quality is kind iffy a lot of the time but not always.

Or I might just have the dedicated mod of moviecinema track it down for me.

I actually went looking for 2 movies inparticular, before the recommendation, and found them easily enough: 12 Rounds & Know1ng. While looking for them I spotted a few other things that caught my eye: Chocolate, Blood Brothers, Bled, Bangkok Dangerous, & The Devil's Tomb...

4:22 PM 7/7/09 · So, had an interesting chat with Corin on my way home the other day...interrupted by occasional bouts of bad reception because she always calls me when she's driving as she lives in more of a dead zone than I do; not to worry, her phone is one of those earpiece thingamabobs. The call was in regards to her upcoming marriage to Howard, which is at the end of this month, and she wanted to ensure I would be there.

Does no one send invites to anyone anymore?

Asked about my invite and she said she'd send it to my email address. It wasn't there when I checked it the following day so, instead, she texted me a website to check out later. I'll probably be doing this at the end of this post. Corin also told me that it might be nice if I had Mom drive me there so she could also attend. Not a bad idea, they used to get on so well, but I had a different thought almost immediately...

...why not bring Laura?

Haven't asked her yet, been a bit preoccupied by other things. There is a point of potential contention involved. Laura has expressed a slight issue meeting other women I've been involved with...which has been less an issue since I don't drive anymore but back in what I term "ye good olde days" I used to get any number of the women I was involved with together from time to time for any number of things. No, not as naughty (necessarily) as you might assume.

Corin is a former lady love from more than a decade back and while we remain good friends...well, the fact she's getting married more than shows there's no continuation of that aspect of what we had anymore. I don't think that would be an issue for Laura but I won't know for sure till we talk about it...if she could even go at all.

There's also some old wives tale about bringing someone you're involved with to a wedding being a sign of something or other but I've never really bought into that.

9:55 AM 7/8/09 · Have since spoken to Laura, was trying to be mysterious but she guessed. Well, technically. She thought I meant Warlock's wedding. Anyway, she may not be able to go given that, by an odd coinkadink, her parents are celebreating their wedding anniverssary on the same day!
